Luke Timothy Hoffman

Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, HERO

Luke was born November 23, 1982. He was the youngest of six children. He was raised on Driver Road in Marriottsville, MD. As a child he played basketball, baseball and formed a love for fishing. Over the years he picked up new interests such as: golfing, horse-shoes, listening to country music and sporting big trucks.

Luke graduated with Honors from Mt. Hebron High School in 2001. While a student there; he volunteered for six years as a fire-fighter and later an EMT at West Friendship Fire Department in Howard County, MD. He eventually earned the rank of sergeant.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD in May, 2005. It was also in his college years when he developed his love for Texas Hold’em, which took him to Las Vegas for the first time where he scored tickets to the MTV video awards.

Luke received an appointment to Montgomery County Police Department Academy where he graduated first in his class in June 2006, earning two awards. The Harry Hamilton Award for excellence in Traffic Law and the Overall Excellence Award. This award has since been renamed: The Luke T. Hoffman Award and is presented to the officer graduating first in their class. His passion for helping others shined through in his career as a police officer.

Luke’s life came to a tragic end on April 25, 2007. While he was on a perimeter watch he was struck by another officer’s cruiser at high speed. After 19 hours Luke succumbed to his injuries and entered into his eternal watch.

Luke’s life was full of promise, determination, and love. His smile, laugh, and memories live on in our hearts. He was taken from us way too soon, but will NEVER be forgotten. We know Luke is with us today as we host this fundraiser in his memory along with the memory of other fallen officers. We will always honor and respect all those who have and continue to serve the public.
